Daz Tait's Books

Introducing Daz Tait, a spirited young South African with an adventurous spirit and a profound affinity for the ocean. In his early twenties, he declared his intention to navigate the world’s vast seas, with the words of his late father resonating deeply within him: “A man is only as good as his word. If you make a promise, ensure you fulfill it.”

He understood that every man’s journey begins and concludes in the same manner, with the distinguishing factors lying in the experiences that fill the space in between.

Driven by a desire to explore and uncover new horizons, he devised a plan in collaboration with his closest friend, dedicating themselves to saving diligently for their dream vessel.

Their goal was to depart from the comforts of contemporary life and embrace a realm of risk and adventure. In this inaugural volume of an exhilarating trilogy, our courageous protagonist lays the groundwork for his aspirations by stepping away from the monotony of routine, ending a meaningful relationship, and embarking on a voyage into the unknown.

Following the success of his first book in the trilogy, The World’s My Oyster, Daz returns with the second installment. We last encountered our adventurous protagonist stranded in the scenic bay of Baleeira, located at the south-western tip of Portugal, grappling with both a damaged vessel and a shattered spirit.

A year of reflection has elapsed since the departure of his cherished Hitrapia, prompting Daz to embark on a new maritime journey. Although he currently lacks a boat, he remains undeterred in his pursuit of the dream to sail around the world. His revised strategy involves joining other skippers as crew members, yet the journey is fraught with challenges.

Daz Tait is not one to tolerate incompetence, and regrettably, some of the vessels he boards are helmed by such individuals. In sailing, as in life, unexpected obstacles are commonplace, so prepare yourself for an exhilarating adventure.

In this volume, Daz retraces his journey halfway across the globe, from the Canary Islands to Australia, while discovering some of the planet’s most stunning and extraordinary locations, including the Galapagos Islands and the legendary isles of French Polynesia in the South Pacific.

Daz Tait embarks on the concluding segment of his formidable journey to circumnavigate the globe, traversing two continents and two oceans.

In the final installment of this trilogy, Daz experiences a poignant return to South Africa, his homeland, explores Machu Picchu, and navigates the waters during the annual humpback whale migration along Brazil’s eastern coastline.

However, his aspirations of completing the journey in the Caribbean are threatened when he falls victim to theft, leaving him destitute and without a passport in Chile.
